Expect delays and plan accordingly as Bogotá anticipates heavy traffic this Friday, october 17, with several incidents already reported across the city’s major roadways.
The weekend officially begins in Colombia’s capital, and with it comes the usual surge in vehicle traffic. Thousands of residents and visitors will be navigating Bogotá via private cars, taxis, and the city’s bus rapid transit system, TransMilenio. Authorities are warning commuters too anticipate congestion and review current traffic restrictions.
Peak Hour and Licence Plate Restrictions
Today, Friday, October 17, vehicles with license plates ending in 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0 are prohibited from circulating between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Taxis with plates ending in 7 and 8 are subject to the same restriction, from 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM.
Drivers can circumvent these restrictions by utilizing the “Pico y Placa Solidario” program, which allows authorized payment for unrestricted circulation. Registration and payment are available through the official Mobility Secretariat portal, but access requires a clean violation record.
TransMilenio Updates & Road Incidents
As of 12:13 PM on October 17, 2025, TransMilenio service has been fully restored on Avenida El Dorado following the clearance of a previous incident. Though,several other disruptions are impacting traffic flow throughout the city.
Earlier today, at 11:38 AM, an accident on Avenida El Dorado at the intersection with Avenida Cali City caused congestion on the TransMilenio route. The articulated buses were temporarily diverted to use the mixed-traffic lanes until reaching the El Dorado Portal.
At 10:32 AM, authorities reported debris falling onto the South Highway near Kilometer 75, heading west-east in the Bolivar City district, causing further congestion.
Prior to that, at 9:30 AM, TransMilenio service was restored on Avenida Americas with Avenida Boyacá, west-east, after a previous disruption.
Earlier Morning Disruptions
The morning commute was marked by a series of incidents. At 8:37 AM, congestion impacted TransMilenio routes on Avenida Americas with Avenida Boyacá, west-east, due to an accident involving a private car and a motorcyclist. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene.
Traffic congestion was also reported at 8:30 AM on Avenida El Dorado at the intersection with Avenida Ciudad de Cali,west-east,following another accident.
At 7:47 AM, an accident involving a tractor-trailer and a private car on the North Highway at 149th Street, heading south-north, caused significant delays.Traffic officers responded to manage the situation.
Earlier, at 5:43 AM, transportation officials confirmed that Sitp and articulated TransMilenio services were operating normally without disruption. transmilenio began operations around 4:00 AM without any reported issues.
