Rockford Remembers Travis Williams, Longtime Custodian and Beloved Family Member
A Rockford resident, Travis Williams, passed away on February 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to his family and community. He was 68 years old.
Born September 1, 1957, in Rockford, Illinois, to Hurtis Sr. and Annie Williams, Williams dedicated his life to service and cherished moments with loved ones. He was known for his gentle spirit and simple pleasures, finding joy in activities like fishing, enjoying sweets, and friendly games of cards and dominos.
A Life of Service and Family
Williams spent his career as a custodian at a nursing home in Michigan City, Indiana, a role that reflected his commitment to caring for others. He was a graduate of Rockford Public Schools, laying the foundation for a life rooted in his hometown. His dedication to his work and his community were hallmarks of his character.
He experienced the profound joy of marriage with Rachel Wright, though she sadly preceded him in death. The loss of his wife was deeply felt, but Williams continued to find strength in his extended family and close friendships.
Remembering Those Who Came Before
Williams was predeceased by his parents, Hurtis Sr. and Annie Williams, as well as three brothers – Willie Crawford, Benny Crawford Sr., and Hurtis Williams – and his sister, Betty Crawford-Yancy. These familial losses undoubtedly shaped his perspective and deepened his appreciation for the bonds he shared with those still living.
A Network of Loving Connections
Williams is survived by a close-knit circle of family and friends who will deeply miss his presence. He leaves behind cherished memories with his special niece, Rachel Williams; special nephews, Benny Crawford Jr., Kenneth Crawford, and James L. Williams Jr.; sister-in-law, Linda Crawford; and aunts, Ella and Agnes Redmond. He was also supported by his good friends, Jon Hall Sr., and Joe Henderson, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Services to Celebrate a Life Well-Lived
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc., located at 200 N. Johnston Ave. in Rockford. A visitation will precede the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Following the service, Williams will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery.
The Rockford community will gather to honor the life and memory of Travis Williams, a man who touched the lives of many through his kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for his family.
