With tree planting on the “Goritsa” hill of D.K. Eleoussa, by the students of Eleoussa High School, the Municipality of Zitsa celebrated the International “Earth Day”.
April 22nd has been established to be celebrated as “Earth Day” with events – actions in more than 190 countries in the world, aimed at raising public awareness of environmental issues. In the context of the celebration, on April 22nd, the Municipality of Zitsa organized a tree planting with the students of the 2nd grade of Eleusa High School as protagonists.
“Our goal is to make children aware of environmental issues. Their zeal gives us hope that as tomorrow’s adults, they will be the ones who will be more ecologically conscious than our own generation,” said Deputy Mayor Katerina Balafa who participated in the action. The vice-mayor also thanked the students and teachers, “who contribute with their action to the Municipality’s effort to create a green “lung” in the area”, as well as the businesses, which with their sponsorships contributed to the implementation of the action.
The students planted in specific places, selected in an existing tree-planted area in the “Goritsa” location, privet, horse chestnuts and ornamental shrubs, sponsored by the “Agrokipos” store, while the students were given t-shirts as a souvenir for the specific day, offered by the company Mills of Ioannina “The Neomartys George”.
