TRENTO. Mourning in the world of the Church and culture of Trentino. Don Vittorio Cristelli passed away at the age of 93. Historic director of the Diocese’s weekly, Vita Trentina, from 1969 to 1989 (when he was expelled by the then bishop Sartori), he was a charismatic figure for the ecclesial world and beyond, philosopher, journalist, teacher.
Don Cristelli, born in Belgium but raised in Miola di Piné, where his parents had moved, now resided in the Clergy Retirement Home at the Episcopal Seminary in via III Novembre. With him disappears a figure of great cultural importance and a resource for the community: his commitment alongside Don Dante Clauser, the priest of the last, founder of the Meeting Point, in the association “Blessed are the builders of peace” should also be mentioned ” by Father Alex Zanotelli and in the “Anti-Drug Center” of Trento.
A “militant” priest, on the front line, son of the Second Vatican Council, in 2010 Don Vittorio received the Eagle of San Wenceslaus, Trento’s highest honor.
