TRENTO. Today, Wednesday 1 May, the delivery of another two of the fifteen special awards offered by associations or partner bodies of the Festival, awarded by independent juries.

Il Cinema Award for Human Rights is a joint initiative of Campana dei Caduti Foundation and the Trentino Forum for Peace and Human Rights with the aim of enhancing the work that best communicates the founding values ​​of the two institutions and raises public awareness on the issues of human rights, peace, sustainability and knowledge and the comparison of peoples and cultures.

In this 72nd edition of the Trento Film Festival it was awarded to Mrs. Iran’s Husband di Marjan Khosravi Baledi (Iran/2023/27′). «For the ability to tackle harshly, but with honesty and correctness, the issue of gender discrimination, in a society with still patriarchal traits, restoring the complexity of a reality that is too often simplified by our media. For the intelligence in sensitively addressing the cultural change taking place in Iran, through language and scenography. For the sense of hope it transmits by highlighting the differences in attitude that characterize the two women belonging to different generations”: this is what the jury, composed of Katia Malatesta, Marco Marsilli, Morena Berti and Riccardo Santoni, wrote.

Il Student Award University of Trento, Bolzano and Innsbruckestablished by the Universities of Trento, Bolzano and Innsbruck and assigned to a work of particular cultural value created by an author under the age of 33, goes to Wheels On The Bus di Surya Shahi (Nepal/2022/15′). The jury – composed of Giovanni De Fazio, Matilde Calabri, Erika Luraschi (UniTn), Tino-Roberto Bros, Daniel Walcher, Matilde Baldassari (UniBz), Andreas Steuxner, Sasa Tomincic, Lena Westreicher (UniInnsbruck) – wrote: «For the clear and exciting narration of delicate themes with which the director managed to immerse the viewer into the story. The jury wanted to reward the sensitivity and care of the image. The choice of shots, sound and editing helped to outline a story with characters with narrative depth while maintaining a balance between depth and lightness.” A special mention was also given to Piblokto di Anastasia Shubina and Timofey Glinin (United States, Russian Federation/2023/38′). Both awards were presented at Cinema Modena, at 2.45 pm, after the screening.
