Armenia’s leading triple jumper Levon Aghasyan was recognized as the runner-up of the Balkan Winter Championship held in Istanbul. This is reported by KGSMN.

Aghasyan showed a result of 16.28 meters and won a silver medal, standing on the second step of the honor platform.

Earlier, runner Yervand Mkrtchyan, showing a result of 3:45:55 minutes in the 1500 meter race, won the first place, leaving behind two representatives of Turkey. According to the head coach of the national team, Grigor Barseghyan, the team’s leading athletes lived up to expectations.

“Both Yervand and Levon performed excellently and lived up to expectations. Of course, Levon could also win the gold medal, unfortunately, he did not. Yervand used excellent tactics and got ahead of quite strong competitors due to its experience. “Thanks to this result, he got the right to participate in the tournament that will start on February 13 in the Begrad indoor gym,” says Grigor Barseghyan.

As for the performances in Istanbul, according to the coach, they did not feel any constraints.

“Of course, this was a symbolic victory, but our leading athletes have won medals and set records many times in Turkey. We did not feel any partiality or special treatment towards us. Everything is okay”.

The head coach of the Armenian athletics team also highlights the performances of runner Ellada Alaverdyan and young triple jumper Gor Hovakimyan. Ellada overcame the 800-meter running distance in 2:07:97 minutes and set the Armenian record of gyms, while Gor set a personal record with a result of 15.59 meters.

To remind, the Armenian athletics team went to the competition under the leadership of Grigor Barseghyan and Arsen Petrosyan. Runners Roman Aleksanyan, Gayane Chiloyan, long jumpers Yana Sargsyan and Gor Beglaryan were also included in the team.

Most likely, Yervand Mkrtchyan will get the right to participate in the World Winter Ranking Championship to be held on March 1-3 in the indoor gym of Glasgow based on the results of the Balkan Winter Championship.
