Operasjonsleder Ståle Olstad Fuglaas confirmed that the driver was transported to Sykehuset i Tønsberg (Tønsberg Hospital) for evaluation. “Necessary samples will be taken at the hospital,” Fuglaas stated, indicating that standard procedure following a serious traffic incident is being followed.
Authorities have initiated a full investigation into the cause of the accident. Åstedsarbeid – forensic work at the scene – is currently underway, and the Havarikommisjonen for tungbiltrafikk (the Accident Investigation Board Norway for heavy vehicles) has been notified. “The potential for serious consequences was significant,” Fuglaas added. “We are awaiting the accident investigation board to conduct a thorough examination of the scene.”

As of 9:30 PM, Statens vegvesen has not provided a timeline for reopening the E18. The primary obstacle is the complex process of recovering the truck and ensuring the structural integrity of the roadway. “It’s difficult to say at this point,” a Vegtrafikksentralen Sør representative explained. “Arrangements for recovery need to be made.
