In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated: Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY.
He added that the agreement serves as a critical step toward Gaza being governed by a new Palestinian government working closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people, while ensuring Israel receives security with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks, as reported by The Mirror.
Phased Execution and International Stabilization
The agreement represents a major milestone in implementing the Trump 20-Point Plan. According to israelnationalnews.com, the accord will be carried out in carefully structured phases. As disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw, and an International Stabilization Force will work alongside a new Palestinian police force to maintain safety for residents and neighbors.
Trump contrasted current progress with conditions from the prior year, noting that a violent raging war, humanitarian crisis, and hostages kept in brutal captivity existed one year ago. The president thanked mediators Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, and emphasized that the threat emerging from Gaza on October 7 will not be allowed to rebuild.
Hamas Dissolves Government Emergency Committee
Concurrently, Hamas announced it would dissolve its Government Emergency Committee that had coordinated day-to-day life across the territory since 2007, marking the first time the group has disbanded its governing authority, according to theweek.com. This move clears a path for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a technocratic committee, to assume control.
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem stated the decision aimed to remove pretexts for occupation and affirmed readiness to hand over governmental responsibilities. NCAG Chief Commissioner Ali Shaath, a Gaza-born engineer and former official with the Palestinian Authority, stated on X that the committee is fully prepared to assume national responsibilities once necessary resources and capabilities are available. Ismail al-Thawabta, general director of the Hamas-run Government Media Office, announced that only technical and professional staff would remain in their positions to run day-to-day affairs under the NCAG.
Board of Peace and Israeli Responses
The Trump-led Board of Peace stated on X that any assessment of the plan would be guided by actions, not promises, to meet the critical needs of the people of Gaza,
emphasizing that the core principle requires one authority, one law, and one weapon under the NCAG as provided for in the Comprehensive Gaza Peace Plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.
Israeli officials and leaders expressed skepticism regarding the transition. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar dismissed the move as designed to avoid disarmament, stating that as long as Hamas retains its weapons, any civilian government will operate as Hamas dictates. Israeli officials also rejected a direct takeover by the Palestinian Authority at this stage and maintained that Israeli forces will not withdraw from the Yellow Line in the Gaza Strip before Hamas is disarmed and the territory is fully demilitarized.
