Trump’s Golf Game Under Scrutiny as Graham Testimony Fuels Cheating Allegations
A long-standing debate over former President Donald Trump’s golf skills has resurfaced, fueled by recent court testimony and a renewed challenge from author Rick Reilly, known for his critical stance on Trump’s on-course conduct. Reilly, author of “Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump,” has consistently alleged that the former president engages in deceptive practices while playing golf, claims now seemingly corroborated by a surprising source.
Reilly has faced criticism for his assertions that Trump “cheats like a Mafia accountant,” but has steadfastly defended his position. The latest development centers around testimony given in 2022 by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) during grand jury proceedings.
According to reporting by The New York Times, Graham, a vocal supporter of Trump, was asked directly if the former president cheats at golf. His response, as relayed by the publication, was telling: “Some people say you may outdrive him, but you’re not going to outdrive his caddy,” adding, “It is what it is.”
Reilly seized upon Graham’s statement, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “To all the MAGAs who said I lied in my book about Trump’s cheating like a three-card money dealer on the golf course, Sn Lindsey Graham just said it under oath. ‘You may outdrive him, but you can’t outdrive his caddy.’ Cheat at golf – Cheat at life. #CommanderInCheat.”
The author further elaborated on his claims, alleging that Trump employs tactics to artificially inflate his scores. “Trump always has a 2nd caddy in the fairway to fluff up his lies B4 anybody gets out there,” he wrote in another post on X.
Reilly has even put his own money on the line, offering a substantial reward for proof to the contrary. Last year, he publicly challenged Trump to allow him to film the former president’s entire golf game. “If he wins without cheating, I’ll give him $100,000,” Reilly stated on X. As of today, Trump has not responded to the challenge.
The White House’s response to the accusations, delivered by communications director Steven Cheung, was scathing. According to a report by The Daily Beast, Cheung dismissed Reilly as a “washed up, pathetic loser” suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and obsessed with the former president’s “countless championships.”
Reilly responded to the attack with characteristic bluntness. “He’s right, though,” Reilly wrote. “Trump does have ‘countless’ championships. You can’t count them, since they’re all fake. Try to find one at a course he DOESN’T own.”
The ongoing dispute highlights the enduring fascination with Trump’s public persona and the persistent questions surrounding his integrity, even in the seemingly innocuous realm of a golf game. The challenge remains open, and the world awaits a response from the former president.
