Donald Trump defeated Nikki Haley, his last Republican rival, in his party’s primary elections in South Carolina, according to forecasts broadcast by a number of American media outlets.

Trump’s victory represents a setback for Haley, who embodies a more moderate wing of the Republican Party, especially since these elections took place in the state where she was governor for six years.
In his first statements shortly after his victory, and in an indication that he no longer saw Haley as a threat to him, Trump addressed the US President from Colombia, the state capital, by saying, “Joe (Biden), you are fired!” Trump was speaking in front of a group of his supporters, amid cheers and applause.
The American media expected Trump to win a few seconds after the polls closed.
“Tonight the primaries end. It’s time to move on to the presidential election,” Trump spokesman Stephen Cheung said in a statement, using one of the former Republican president’s favorite expressions.
For her part, Haley announced her intention to remain in the race to win the Republican Party nomination to run in the US presidential elections, despite her defeat to Trump.
“I will not give up this fight,” Haley told her supporters during a rally in Charleston.
