The aircraft carrying Xi and Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan touched down at 5.39 pm local time on Wednesday at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump waited at the foot of the aircraft ladder to greet them as they disembarked at 6.01 pm local time.
The high-profile reception featured a 100-foot red carpet, a 21-person honor cordon, ceremonial cannon fire, and the U.S. Air Force Band playing national anthems. Two U.S. Air Force B-1 bombers also executed a flyover during the tarmac greeting.
