Tulane Survives Overtime Thriller, Defeats Boston College 93-90 at Charleston Classic

Tulane men’s basketball secured a hard-fought 93-90 overtime victory against Boston College on Sunday night at the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic, fueled by stellar performances from Curtis Williams Jr. and Rowan Brumbaugh.The Green Wave (4-2) overcame a late challenge to earn their first overtime win sence February 2,2024,against Temple.

Wave Battle Back to Extend Charleston classic Record

With the win, Tulane improved to 2-3 all-time in the Charleston Classic and 2-1 in away games this season. This victory also marks the program’s first against a current Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team since a November 22, 2023, win over Cal at the SoCal Challenge.

Dominant Performance in the Paint Propels Tulane

Tulane showcased offensive efficiency, shooting 51.7% from the field (31-of-60), and established a commanding presence in the paint, outscoring Boston College 48-28 around the rim. The Green Wave also excelled in second-chance points (15-14), points off turnovers (17-10), and bench production (22-15), demonstrating a well-rounded team effort.

Williams and Brumbaugh Lead the Charge

Curtis Williams Jr. led all scorers with a career-high 24 points,adding 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Rowan Brumbaugh contributed 18 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Josiah Moore added 14 points, while Kolby King chipped in with 10 points off the bench.

First Half Fireworks

Tulane started strong, building a 16-6 advantage with 13:56 remaining in the first half. The Green Wave maintained control for much of the opening frame, but Boston College rallied to take their first lead with under a second left, sending Tulane into halftime trailing 39-40.

Back-and-Forth Action Defines Second Half

The second half was a seesaw battle, with Tulane and boston College trading the lead nine times and the score being tied on six occasions. Boston College briefly led by six points with 7:32 to play, but Tulane responded with a determined comeback.

Rowan brumbaugh briefly put Tulane ahead 73-72 with a layup at the 2:22 mark. the teams continued to exchange leads until Tulane held an 81-77 advantage with 14 seconds remaining. Though, Boston College answered with a dramatic three-pointer from beyond the halfcourt logo in the closing seconds, forcing the game into overtime tied at 83-83.

Williams Seals the Deal in Overtime

Boston College gained an early advantage in overtime, but Tulane consistently answered. Curtis Williams Jr. gave the Green Wave their first lead in the extra period with a crucial three-pointer. After a quick response from Boston College, Williams struck again with a layup, putting Tulane ahead 92-90 with 1:08 left to play. A free throw by Josiah Moore extended the lead to three, and Tulane secured the final defensive stop to clinch the 93-90 victory.

Green Wave Return Home to Face Nicholls

Tulane will return to Uptown to host Nicholls on Friday, November 28. the game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. from Avron B.Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
