Turkey promotes cultural diplomacy with Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou, Nov. 10, 2023 (AIB)-The embassy of Turqiye (Ex Turkey) in Burkina Faso offered Wednesday evening a window of visibility to African visual artists, as part of the promotion of cultural diplomacy between the Republic of Turkey and Burkina Faso, noted the AIB.

The ambassador of the Republic of Turqiye (former Turkey), Nilgün Erdem Ari, hosted on the evening of Wednesday November 8, 2023, at her residence in Ouagadougou, an exhibition of plastic arts, as part of the

4th edition of the Ouagadougou Contemporary Art Market (Wékré).

According to Ms. Erdem Ari, this activity is part of the festivities of the centenary of the creation of the Republic of Turkey and the promotion of cultural diplomacy between her country and Burkina Faso.

It is also about taking advantage of this evening to put African and Turkish artists in contact with potential clients.

“I sincerely believe that through the promotion of art and culture, social cohesion, solidarity and the return to peace are promoted,” said Nilgün Erdem Ari.

The executive secretary of the Collectif Wékré, Aboubacar Sanga, warmly thanked the diplomat for this opportunity.

He recalled that the 4th edition of the Ouagadougou Contemporary Art Market takes place from November 6 to 12, 2023 from 8 to 5:30 p.m. at the Bangréwéogo urban park in Ouagadougou.

According to him, Wékré wants to give the Burkinabè the opportunity to obtain works of art from their compatriots at home.

“Burkina is full of talent. It is not normal that we can have so much talent and not have the possibility of finding their works first among the Burkinabè and then among the friends of Burkina Faso,” explained Mr. Sanga.

In his opinion, the African artists who agreed to come to Burkina Faso in this difficult security context are true friends of the Land of Upright Men.

Aboubacar Sanga therefore tipped his hat to the artists from Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo, Niger, Ivory Coast, Mali and Benin.

He requested a special bench for the curator of the exhibition, the Ivorian Mathilde Moreau, painter and honorary director of the Abidjan school of fine arts.

Note that as the exhibition is dedicated to women, it is the women of the royal court of Tiébélé in south-central Burkina Faso who are the guests of honor.

These women are the guardians of ancestral know-how, namely the mural paintings which adorn the royal court of Tiébélé and other buildings.

For Aboubacar Sanga it is important to support the work of these women, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.

He wants them to be entrusted with the decoration of many buildings to leave traces of our cultural identity.

For the spokesperson for the women of the royal court of Tiébélé, Assèta Nassara Idogo, we must promote Burkinabè culture throughout the world, starting with the youth who are no longer interested in culture and traditions.

She said she was happy to share her knowledge with so many artists.
