And the ultimate winner of 2023 is… France 2. The channel won the New Year’s Eve match by placing itself very far at the top of the audiences for the last evening of the year thanks to “the Grande Soirée du 31 de Paris”, orchestrated by Stéphane Bern. According to Médiamétrie, an average of 4.19 million viewers watched until 12:40 a.m. this entertainment focused on the Olympic Games, which France Télévisions will broadcast exclusively this summer, and which concluded with a fireworks display on the Arc de Triomphe. The market share is 30.3% for the entire public aged four and over. It is 20.7% for women responsible for purchases under 50 (FRDA-50). The public service channel is clearly ahead of TF 1. “Le Grand Bêtisier du 31”, presented as a duo by Christophe Beaugrand and Karine Ferri, was followed until 12:35 a.m. by 2.39 million people, or 17.1% share of market (and 29% on the FRDA-50).

M 6, which also offered a gala evening, entitled “M 6 on her 31st, let the party begin! », is at the foot of the podium. Only 1.25 million French people decided to switch in 2024 to the big musical show, recorded at the Dôme de Paris and presented by Élodie Gossuin, i.e. 8.4% of PDA (16.4% on the FRDA-50, which is essential for the channel’s advertising revenue). La Six was beaten by France 3, which offered rebroadcast episodes of “Enquêtes de Vera”. 1.37 million thriller fans were amazed by the first evening survey, i.e. 9.1% of PDA (and only 0.3% on the FRDA-50, which proves that it was only watched than by a very elderly audience).

9.15 million French people in front of Emmanuel Macron’s wishes, not counting the news channels

C 8 is doing well with “the Greatest Cabaret in the world: 25 years of magic”, an evening in tribute to the former king of 31: Patrick Sébastien. 960,000 nostalgic people responded to the call, or 6.7% of the public (and 4.3% of the FRDA-50). A good score for Cyril Hanouna’s channel, which is ahead of Arte with 620,000 viewers ahead of “The Great Race Around the World”, a film directed by Blake Edwards with Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood and Jack Lemmon (4.3% PDA). The Franco-German channel’s movie evening beats TMC, TF 1 Séries Films, France 5, Chérie 25 and 6ter, all below the 500,000 viewer mark.

Note the hearings of the President of the Republic’s wishes, broadcast from 8 p.m. on TF 1, France 2, France 3 and M 6. Emmanuel Macron was listened to by 3.76 million respectively (24.2% of the public) , 3.38 million (21.8%), 1.22 million (7.9%) and 790,000 French people (5.1%). That’s a total of 9.15 million, not counting the news channels, whose audiences will only be known at the end of the morning.
