Twitter Allows Authors To Accept Bitcoin Donations

by time news

Twitter users who have the app installed on iOS will now be able to send Bitcoin donations to content creators, CNBC reported. The company has added support for bitcoin transactions via the Lightning Network, a payment protocol that allows transactions using cryptocurrency.

This function will still be available in applications for iOS users, in the near future it will not appear on Android. The company will also allow users to add their bitcoin addresses to send and receive cryptocurrency.

The company explained that they chose the Lightning Network, taking into account the reduced transaction fees. Users can connect a Lightning wallet or bind a bitcoin address to send and receive transfers in cryptocurrency. Previously, users could only send donations in foreign currency through third-party payment services, such as CashApp, owned by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
