The Internet service Twitter sells the company MoPub, which specializes in mobile advertising. The purchase price was $ 1.05 billion (around 910 million euros) in cash, announced Twitter on Wednesday. The new owner will therefore be the technology company AppLovin, which helps operators distribute apps and offers its own applications, including games. The takeover should be completed “in the coming months”.

Twitter acquired MoPub in September 2013 for around $ 350 million shortly before going public. The US company has already tried to get rid of MoPub several times – especially in 2016, when it struggled with disappointing growth figures and a difficult market environment. MoPub had sales of approximately $ 188 million in 2020.

Twitter will comment on the exact financial consequences of the sale at the end of October, then the company will present its quarterly figures. In any case, Twitter can use the money well for a planned compensation of its shareholders, which is due in the near future and amounts to almost 810 million dollars. With this, the company had ended a dispute over the communication of the business figures in 2015.
