Elon Musk, who fully acquired Twitter, laid off half of the company’s employees effective Friday. In this case, they approached some of the dismissed employees and asked them to come back to the office because they were mistakenly dismissed. Some were reportedly fired before management realized their work and experience was needed to build new features that Musk said were necessary.

Following Musk’s takeover of Twitter in late October, management fired about 3,700 people via email in a new effort to cut costs. Many employees have learned they lost their jobs following the sudden suspension of access to enterprise-wide systems such as email and Slack.

Commenting on this on Twitter, Musk said, “Unfortunately, the company was losing $4 million a day and had no choice but to lay off its employees. Also, all those laid off will be paid 3 months’ wages. This is 50% more than what was legally announced,” he posted last Friday.

Some report that Twitter still has about 3,700 employees left. Twitter has announced that it will roll out new features in its Twitter Blue subscription plan. Accordingly, all monthly paying users can get account verification cells.
