Twitter suspends the payment verification launched by Musk due to the chaos of the ‘fake’ accounts

by time news

Since Elon Musk made the purchase of Twitter official, the day-to-day life of the social network has been plagued with turbulence. Due to the massive layoffs at all the company’s headquarters and the revolution that he intends to implement in the use of the platform, the tycoon’s management has been at the center of controversy.

One of his most famous measures since presiding over the bird network has been to open account verification to any user, upon payment of 8 dollars. An option that was already available and that this Friday has had to be suspended, at least temporarily.

Before, for the free verification of an account, it was enough to prove some type of recognizable public work, so it was tradition that the accounts with the blue sign belonged to artists, journalists or public figures.

Musk’s revolutionary idea, supported at all times by his intention to give “power to the people”, has caused the proliferation of ‘fake’ (false) verified accounts with the names of important personalities or companies that have been supplanted by identity.

This has caused Twitter to decide to suspend, at least temporarily, this possibility that until now was only available to users of the social network through the iOS (iPhone) application.

Before taking this decision, a double verification was implemented that included an ‘official’ under the username in those real accounts, but at failing to stop the chaos it has been decided to stop access to verification and give the process a spin.

Since Musk declared his intention to acquire Twitter months ago, he made it clear that one of his main reasons for taking charge of the social network was to eliminate all those people who were hiding behind fake accounts. Something that, at the moment, is costing him.

Against parody accounts and the “journalism elites”

In recent hours, the owner of Twitter has been narrating on his time-line (his timeline, that is, the wall on which each user writes his tweets) each of the ideas and advances that he has implemented or has in mind. mind to implant in his new company.

In the context of his fight against ‘fake’ accounts, Musk announced that parody accounts they should expressly indicate that they are in their corresponding biographies.

Likewise, he sent a clear message to journalists and media around the world by assuring that one of Twitter’s objectives is to give voice to citizen journalismsomething that the communication elites do not like, insinuating that certain negative news about his management have a hidden objective.
