The first Belarusians who will prepare for the flight to the ISS arrived on Sunday, July 23, in Star City. These are Belavia flight attendant Marina Vasilevskaya, who is to be included in the main part of the 21st visiting crew to the ISS, and Anastasia Lenkova, a pediatric surgeon of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery, is a member of the backup crew. The flight of the visiting expedition is scheduled for March 13, 2024.

Recall that the Russian and Belarusian presidents Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko agreed on the flight of the Belarusian cosmonaut of the fair sex as part of the Russian crew on April 12, 2022 at the Vostochny cosmodrome.

In December 2022, applicants for the flight from Belarus arrived at the Cosmonaut Training Center to be selected. Alexander Lukashenko personally visited them during training on December 24. In particular, I was present at the testing of one of them on a centrifuge.

As a result, members of the selection committee chose Marina Vasilevskaya and Anastasia Lenkova for the main and backup crews.

According to Roscosmos, on Monday, July 24, these girls will be presented to the management and staff of the Yu.A. Gagarin. After that, their training under the program of space flight participants will begin.

It is assumed that the training of the first cosmonauts of Belarus will take eight months. Vasilevskaya and Lenkova will study the systems of the Soyuz MS manned spacecraft and the Russian segment of the ISS, training the crew on actions in case of an emergency landing in various climatic and geographical zones.

Marina Vasilevskaya is included in the main crew along with Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky and NASA astronaut Tracey Dyson, Anastasia Lenkova is included in the backup crew along with Roscosmos cosmonaut Ivan Vagner and NASA astronaut Donald Pettit.

It is expected that Oleg Novitsky and Marina Vasilevskaya will spend 12 days on the ISS and return to Earth on the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft together with NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara, while Tracy Dyson will continue flying at the station.
