Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has been banned for two matches by the Spanish Football Federation for using foul language during an argument with the referee in a La Liga match. However, the English footballer commented that this ban is just ridiculous.
After the Champions League match against Leipzig on Wednesday (March 6), the 20-year-old footballer said, ‘I don’t think I said anything insulting to him. I ran towards him like other teammates. I think.. sometimes… since I’m still new and such, that’s why he wants to make an example out of me.’
Bellingham accepts that he has his own responsibility. However, this midfielder is not willing to accept the punishment of two matches for this, ‘I have to take the responsibility of my work and I think, I have given him (the referee) an opportunity to show the red card. But I am not happy with this decision.’
Bellingham added that the club would speak for him, adding: ‘I think if the club appeals, something better can happen. Because in my opinion, a two match ban is a bit ridiculous. In the end, I have to take that responsibility if I have to sit out both the matches and I will support the team from the gallery.’
It should be noted that in La Liga last Saturday night, Real drew 2-2 in the field of Valencia. Bellingham scored with a header in stoppage time. Just at that moment the referee’s whistle sounded. As a result, the goal was not considered valid. At that time, when the real players surrounded the referee, Bellingham abused.
That is why the Spanish Football Federation has punished Bellingham based on Article 124 of their code of conduct. This section states, ‘Anyone who addresses the referee in an insulting or disrespectful manner, or unless it is considered a more serious offence, will be banned for two to three matches or a maximum of one month.’
As a result of this ban, Bellingham will not be able to play against Celta Vigo at home on March 10 and against Osasuna on March 16. However, it is also known that Bellingham will appeal to the disciplinary committee to get the best star of the team.
