The maritime security company “Ambry” announced‌ today, Monday, that ‌a cargo tanker owned by a Greek party ⁢and flying the‌ flag of ‍the Marshall Islands was subjected to ⁣two missile attacks off the‌ coast of Yemen.

AMBERY added that it had ‍received⁤ information that the tanker reported a projectile being‌ spotted near it, 23 nautical miles northeast of Khor Anjar in Djibouti and 40 nautical miles‌ southwest of Mokha in Yemen.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in an updated‌ advisory that the ship ⁤reported being ⁤attacked by‍ two missiles, but the crew were safe and the ship was heading to its⁤ next port of ‍call.

In the context, the Yemeni Armed Forces announced in a statement that they targeted the⁤ American ship “Star Iris” in the Red Sea with a number of appropriate naval missiles, and the hit was accurate and direct.

Yemen’s Iran-aligned ⁤Houthi movement, which controls the country’s most densely populated areas, has been‍ using⁢ drones and firing missiles at commercial ships passing through ⁣the Red ⁢Sea since mid-April.

The movement says the attacks are in response to Israeli military operations in Gaza.

These attacks have affected ‍global shipping traffic, prompting many companies to abandon the Red Sea and⁣ opt for⁤ a longer, more ⁤expensive route around Africa.
