On the French island of Reunion, a light plane crashed, killing a pilot and a passenger, local newspaper Clicanoo and Le Parisien reported.
The plane crashed on the rocks of the Maidon peak at about 8:00 am (07:00 Moscow time). Le Parisien reports that the plane was flown by a 41-year-old pilot, who accounted for 1400 flight hours, the age of the second passenger who died was not specified. Rescue work was carried out by about 30 emergency workers, the course of the operation was complicated by strong winds and uneven rocks. The operation took a total of several hours, the newspaper adds.
The gendarmerie launched an investigation into the crash. While the versions are being considered about a technical malfunction, weather problems or a human factor, captain of the gendarmerie Martin Perrodo, who led the rescue operation, said, La Parisien said.
