The cast recording for “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across Novel York),” the critically acclaimed new Broadway musical, is now available. Featuring performances by Olivier Award winner Sam Tutty (“Dear Evan Hansen”) and Broadway star Christiani Pitts (“A Bronx Tale,” “King Kong”), the album captures the energy and heart of the reveal that has captivated audiences since its arrival on Broadway last fall.
The recording features orchestration by Lux Pyramid, who has collaborated with artists like Suki Waterhouse and Rita Ora and is co-produced by the show’s writers and composers, Jim Barne and Kit Buchan. Tim Jackson, who recently directed “Merrily We Roll Along” and assisted Dylan Mulvaney on “Least Problematic Woman in the World,” directs and choreographs, with Nick Finlow (“Back to the Future,” “The Book of Mormon”) serving as the musical supervisor. Physical CD and vinyl release dates will be announced at a later time.
“Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)” premiered on Broadway following successful runs in Boston and London’s West Finish, officially opening on November 20, 2025. The New York debut garnered widespread critical praise, including a “Critic’s Pick” from The New York Times, which lauded the musical as “a buoyant new musical that lavishly offers laughs, escape, and whimsy.” The show was also included on “best of” lists for 2025 by USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, Mashable, Deadline, Out Magazine, TheaterMania, and New York Theatre Guide, among others. A Story of Unexpected Connections
At its core, “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)” is a story about timing, connection, and the unexpected detours life throws our way. The musical introduces audiences to Dougal, an optimistic Englishman making his first trip to New York City to attend his father’s wedding – a father he’s never met. He crosses paths with Robin, a pragmatic New Yorker juggling a multitude of errands, including picking up the estranged son of the groom from the airport. Their journey together unfolds against the backdrop of New York City, filled with secrets and the possibility of second chances.
The creative team behind the production includes Soutra Gilmour (scenic and costume design, “Sunset Boulevard,” “& Juliet”), Tony Award-winning lighting designer Jack Knowles (“Sunset Boulevard”), and Olivier Award-winning sound designer Tony Gayle (“My Neighbour Totoro”). Cheryl Thomas (“Waiting for Gadot,” “Sunset Blvd.”) is responsible for wig and makeup design. Ted Arthur (“Back to the Future,” “The Prom”) serves as the musical director, with casting by C12 Casting (“Gutenberg,” “& Juliet”) and Judith Schoenfeld (“Days of Wine and Roses,” “Dear Evan Hansen”) as the production stage manager. Asmeret Ghebremichael is the assistant director and choreographer.
From London to Broadway
The production’s journey began at the Kiln Theatre in London, where it enjoyed a sold-out run in November 2023. The Observer called it a “fresh, funny, and flawless musical,” and it subsequently transferred to the Criterion Theatre in London’s West End for an extended engagement from April 4 to August 31, 2024. The North American premiere of “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)” was presented at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University from May 20 to July 13, 2025.
Before arriving on Broadway, the musical was initially produced by Royal &. Derngate Northampton and the New Wolsey Ipswich under the title “The Season.” It was developed with support from the Stiles and Drewe MTI Mentorship Award, and excerpts were presented at BEAM2018, supported by Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network.
Completing the company as standbys for Dougal and Robin are Phoenix Best (“Dear Evan Hansen”), Austin Colburn (“Fixing Frankie”), Jana Larell Glover (“Six: The Musical”), and Vincent Michael (“Safety Not Guaranteed”).
The musical is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, Tim Johanson, Glass Half Full Productions, and Jamie Wilson Productions.
