Tehran: Two teenage girls have been arrested for eating at a restaurant in Iran without wearing a hijab, media reported.

Evin Prison in the Iranian capital, Tehran, is considered a notorious prison. Protesters against the Iranian government are usually held in this prison. The prison is monitored by intelligence officials.

As protests against the hijab intensify in Iran, the arrests of the young women have added to tensions.

Struggle background: Hijab is compulsory in Iran for girls from 9 years old to old age. A special police unit called ‘Kast Ershad’ is patrolling in public places to monitor the way women dress. On the 13th, Masha Amini (22) from Sahis, Kurdistan Province, Iran, went with her family to visit a relative in the capital city of Tehran.

Then the special force police intercepted Masha and accused her of not wearing hijab properly. They arrested him and took him away in a van. He was brutally beaten in police custody. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the 16th. Masha’s death has now led to massive protests in Iran.
