On the fenced plot of urban land at the address: Rakvere Street 71a, a lively work is now in full swing – the pond is being cleared of mud, the area around it is being landscaped, paths are being marked, street lighting is being installed.
Some residents of Narva have already forgotten the purpose for which a year ago all the bushes densely bordering the wild lake were cut down here, and a fence was installed. Recall that a local picturesque recreation park will be created at this address, the project of which, as a civil initiative, was proposed by Vyacheslav Shilkin, a Narvitian, in early 2021. The city allocated 300,000 euros from a special budget item on the people’s initiative for this construction.
The park was designed by Kobras OÜ, a Tartu company that won the competition and has experience in designing similar facilities. The regrets expressed a year ago by Vyacheslav Shilkin that the delay in the implementation of his idea would lead to an increase in the cost of the project turned out to be true. To date, according to the mayor of Narva, Katri Raik, a contract has been concluded only for the first stage of construction, and the scope of these works did not include the installation of game elements, soft covering for children’s and sports grounds, one of the main features of Shilkin’s idea – a gazebo and two platforms on bank of the reservoir.
True, another idea – planting a live spruce to decorate it for the Christmas and New Year holidays – will be implemented. “Although not in the place where I suggested, but what can you do, the designers decided to do it their own way,” Shilkin commented.
The park, for which the name “Naksitrall Park” was chosen by the majority in the popular vote, but named “Payu Park” by the decision of the competition jury at the Narva City Government, should be built according to the original plans by the end of 2023.
