A University of Alabama at Birmingham football player is facing serious charges following a stabbing incident that injured two of his teammates just hours before a scheduled game.

Daniel Israel Mincey, a 20-year-old offensive lineman from Pompano Beach, Florida, was charged Monday with attempted murder and first-degree assault. The charges stem from a saturday morning attack at the universityS football Operations Building, according to a statement from a university spokesperson, Alicia Rohan. Mincey was booked into the Jefferson county jail on Saturday afternoon and remains incarcerated as of Monday, held on $90,000 bail.

Court documents allege Mincey attempted “to intentionally cause the death of Jasire Peterson… by stabbing him with a knife.” A separate criminal complaint accuses him of committing “assault 1st degree” resulting in “serious physical injury to Joshua Underwood… by stabbing him with a knife.” Both Peterson and Underwood were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
