Dubai: New Year’s Saturday is a public holiday in the UAE. The government’s human resources department said in a statement that the new weekend holiday will be effective from January 1. With this, government employees will get three consecutive days of leave. Due to the fact that December 31st is a Friday, vacations are available on Saturdays and Sundays. With this, the employees will have to be present in the offices on Monday after the New Year holiday break.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization on Sunday announced that January 1 will also be a holiday for private sector employees in the country. With this, the employees of the companies which are on leave on Sundays in the private sector are likely to get three days leave.

According to the new weekend holidays announced earlier, the holidays are from January to Saturday and Sunday. Offices will be open until 12 noon on Friday. With Friday afternoons also being a holiday, the effect is to get two and a half days off each week. Currently, the weekend in the country is on Fridays and Saturdays. The new approach was implemented to adapt to the global business environment.
