A new generation of dental professionals is being equipped with state-of-the-art technology as the Juárez Autonomous University of Tabasco (UJAT) commemorates the 56th anniversary of its Dental Surgeon degree program.
The milestone, celebrated on January 12, 2025, highlights the program’s evolution from limited dental care access in Tabasco five decades ago to a now-consolidated professional field. More than 1,000 students are currently enrolled, benefiting from cutting-edge facilities and equipment designed to prepare them for the demands of modern dentistry.
A Legacy of Excellence Recognized
The anniversary celebrations included a ceremony recognizing faculty for their contributions to the program’s success. University officials, including Rector Guillermo Narváez Osorio, Director of the Academic Division of Health Sciences (DACS) Mirian Carolina Martínez López, teaching coordinator Adriana Martínez Peralta, degree coordinator Xavier Moreno Enríquez, and dean José Fernando Vidal Giorgana, attended the event.
“I don’t know how many universities can boast the technological level that our students have today,” a senior official stated, emphasizing the commitment to providing a world-class learning environment. The university’s investment in advanced technology is a key component of this commitment.
Modernizing Dental Education
Recent upgrades to the Dental Surgeon program have significantly enhanced the learning experience. These improvements include the incorporation of clinical simulators, tomographs, digital X-ray systems, microscopes, and state-of-the-art dental units.
The program has also focused on modernizing its learning spaces, with the installation of multimedia technology, the creation of a clinical simulation laboratory, and the development of an immersive classroom. Notably, 90 new dental units and highly specialized equipment have been acquired to support hands-on training. “
Expanding International Collaboration
UJAT’s Dental Surgeon program is not only advancing domestically but also forging international partnerships. The university now boasts consolidated academic bodies and professors within the National System of Researchers. Furthermore, three dental specialties offer postgraduate courses with a growing international presence, fostering collaboration with institutions in Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.
According to the DACS director, the program’s 56-year history is a testament to the dedication of teachers, researchers, and administrators. A video presentation during the anniversary ceremony showcased the contributions of the program’s founders and those who have shaped its growth.
The program, founded just eleven years after the creation of UJAT, continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of dental care in Tabasco and beyond.
