UCT Athletes claim 17 Medals at National University Games 2025

the Catholic university of Temuco (UCT) delivered a stellar performance at the FENAUDE 2025 National University Games, held in Santiago between October 4 and 16, securing a total of 17 medals and showcasing the growing strength of university sports in Chile. More than 2,500 student athletes from across the country participated in the event.

UCT’s Impressive Overall Showing

The UCT teams distinguished themselves through dedication, effort, and critically importent achievements across a variety of disciplines. A senior official highlighted that “Thes achievements reflect the commitment, perseverance and sportsmanship of our students, who proudly represent UCT in each competition,” emphasizing the importance of university sports as an integral part of student progress. The success is also attributed too the dedication of coaches and the Recreation and Sports Program team.

Athletics Dominance on the Track and Field

UCT’s athletics program was a major contributor to the medal count. Victor Curiche earned silver medals in both the long jump and the 400m hurdles.Cipriano Riquelme secured a silver in the hammer throw, finishing 5th in javelin and 6th in shot put. A standout performance came from Benjamin Muñoz, who claimed double gold in both hammer and shot put. Ignacio Velasquez added a silver in the 10,000m flat, while Tamara Villegas took gold in the 5,000m flat. Other notable results included Javier Candia (7th in 1500m and 8th in 800m), Felipe Catripi (9th in 3000m obstacles), and Lucas Veloso (27th in 100m flat).

Cross Country successes

The UCT cross country team also demonstrated exceptional form. They secured a bronze medal in the 4x2000m mixed relay, with a team comprised of Wladimir Murua, Javiera Cerda, Felipe Marileo, and tamara Villegas.Villegas continued her winning streak with a gold medal in the 8K ladies’ race, while Candia earned a bronze in the 10K men’s race. Additional strong performances in the 10K included Catalina Arzola (19th),Javiera Cerda (20th),Felipe catripi (8th),and Wladimir Murua (14th).

Judo and Weightlifting Add to the Medal Tally

UCT’s judo team also contributed to the medal haul. Mickaela Fonseca (-48 kg) won a gold medal, Constanza Aravena (-78 kg) secured silver, and Pascale Linares (-63 kg) earned a bronze. Anyel Mellado (-57 kg) and Martin Césped (-90 kg) also represented UCT in the competition.

In weightlifting, Ignacio Muñoz (-110 kg) took bronze, Kendra Bustos (-58 kg) claimed gold, and Fernanda Antil (-86 kg) also secured a gold medal. Furthermore, the UCT women’s weightlifting team earned a silver medal in the overall team classification.

Futsal Depiction

The UCT futsal teams also participated, with the checkers team finishing in 6th place nationally and the men’s futsal team placing 11th.

These results, according to a university release, reflect the sustained growth of university sports at UCT, driven by the Recreation and Sports Program of the University Life Directorate, which continues to promote sports practice as a fundamental part of the comprehensive development of students.
