Kentucky Swim & Dive Teams Prepare for Tri-Meet, SEC Championship Push
Table of Contents
The University of Kentucky swimming and diving teams are gearing up for a challenging tri-meet this Friday, January 16th, as they continue their preparation for the 2026 SEC Swimming and Diving Championship. The Wildcats are coming off a successful weekend, securing wins against Notre Dame, marking their first victory of the season.
Split Competition Schedule
The competition will be split between Nashville, Tennessee, and Lexington, Kentucky. The swimming portion of the meet will take place in Nashville at 2 p.m. ET, with the Kentucky women’s team facing off against Vanderbilt and Texas A&M, while the men’s team will compete solely against Texas A&M. The diving events will be held concurrently in Lexington at the Lancaster Aquatic Center, starting at 12 p.m. ET, with both Wildcat teams competing against Texas A&M.
The unique arrangement stems from Vanderbilt only fielding a women’s swimming program, creating a slightly different dynamic for the tri-meet. Despite this, the Wildcats remain focused on their performance.
Recent Successes and Tough Competition
Kentucky’s recent dual-meet victory against Notre Dame provided a significant boost to the team’s morale. Prior to that win, the Wildcats faced a demanding schedule, with every opponent ranked within the CSCAA top-25. Currently, Texas A&M is ranked No. 24 on the men’s side, with their women’s team receiving votes in the poll. Vanderbilt was not ranked in the CSCAA top-25 as of December.
Key Performers Leading the Charge
The Wildcat men have been propelled by standout performances from freshman Falemana Tuufui, who recently set a new 50-free record. Junior Carson Hick, and seniors Levi Sandidge and Ryan Merani are also playing a crucial role in mentoring the newcomers and maximizing their potential.
On the women’s side, sophomore Katy Jost, senior Fernanda De Goeij, and divers Avery Giese and Kristy Pfaff are leading the team’s efforts.
Focus on Improvement as Championship Approaches
With the 2026 SEC Swimming and Diving Championship just a month away, the entire Kentucky squad is prioritizing incremental improvements in each meet. Dive action in Lexington will begin at 12 p.m. ET, while the swimming events in Nashville are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the results on the MeetMobile App and watch the swimming portion of the meet on SEC Network+.
