The police even stated that he had eight weapons (at FF, he allegedly fired an AR-15 assault rifle). Where did he get them? How has he been able to buy them since May?! And why didn’t anyone find such weaponry suspicious?

“We will thoroughly check whether the system or an individual failed,” said Deputy Chief of Police Tomáš Kubík. The registry is reportedly not set up to set off an alarm when a large number of guns are purchased in a short period of time.

A number of changes are needed, including mandatory psychotests, a reduction in the period of granting ZP to two years from ten, or the introduction of annual testing,” security expert Jiří Vojáček told Blesk. According to him, the owner of the ZP can even claim a long gun!

Former police instructor PČR Pavel Black, who is dedicated to training international units, on the other hand told Blesku: “Our gun laws could only make other countries envious of us. There are many excellent things in the amendment being prepared, but also – contrary to the government’s promises – the tightening of weapons legislation. Of course, any system or someone in it can make a mistake, but I stand by the fact that the gun legislation is strict enough and the conditions are effective.”

The amendment is in the House of Representatives

According to Interior Minister Vít Rakušan, an amendment to the Weapons Act is already in the Chamber of Deputies, which would solve some of the mentioned problems. “Among other things, it enshrines the competence of the police to take away legally held weapons if there is any doubt as to what their use would be, as well as the possibility to map and draw attention to larger purchases and procurement of weapons,” the minister said, adding: “Czech weapons legislation it is of good quality.”
