Commercial electricity supplies from Belarus to Ukraine resumed on Saturday 6 November. The reports made on the eve of this on Saturday were confirmed by the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

“Belarusian electricity began to enter the Ukrainian energy system on November 6. In accordance with the signed contract, supplies will be carried out during November,” the Belarusian Energy Ministry said in its Telegram channel.

It was stated that the schedule of supplies was drawn up by the Belarusian side, taking into account the available technical capabilities, including the operating modes of the power system and the capacities of generating equipment.

According to the European Network of Transmission System Operators of Electricity (ENTSO-E), supplies with a capacity of 5 MW will be carried out without interruptions or changes in capacity.

Ukraine made a request for emergency assistance from the power systems of Slovakia and Belarus with a volume of 100 MW and 500 MW, respectively, in early November. The reason was a significant deficit in the power system.

In 2021, Ukraine resumed importing electricity from Russia and Belarus. However, in May, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law on the right of the national energy regulator to restrict these imports. After Russia decided to stop deliveries of thermal coal to Kiev on November 1, citing growing domestic demand, more than half of the power units at thermal power plants stopped working in Ukraine.
