Washington: US President Joe Biden has warned that Russian President Putin’s talk of using nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war cannot be passed off as mere parody.

US President Joe Biden attended an event organized by media giant Rupert Murdoch in Manhattan. Speaking at a Democratic fundraiser, Biden said the United States had not faced the greatest nuclear threat since 1962. Then the Soviet Union threatened to stop nuclear missiles in Cuba. He said that Russian President Putin’s claims that he would use nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine cannot be dismissed as mere parody.

In a recent televised address, Putin warned that he would not hesitate to launch a nuclear war. International experts on his warning say Putin could launch a small-scale nuclear attack. But US President Joe Biden predicts that the consequences will also be dire. Biden also warns that Putin could use nuclear or biological or chemical weapons in a fit of rage because Russian forces are unable to hold back in Ukraine.

Russia launched a war against Ukraine last February. Eight months have passed since the attack and the war is still going on without a solution. The West, including the United States, has been providing arms and aid to Ukraine. India has been urging Ukraine and Russia to return to talks.
