The energy ministers of the countries of the group of the seven most developed world economies (G-7) and of other countries will meet tomorrow, September 23, in Rome. Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which suffered severe damage in the Russian military invasion, is among the main topics of the forum. This was announced earlier by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
The Russian military has been bombarding Ukraine’s energy system since invading the country in late February 2022. They cause serious damage to it, causing long-term power outages in some regions.
This winter, Ukraine will experience a power shortage that could amount to 6 gigawatts. This represents about a third of the country’s expected peak electricity consumption, according to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) presented on September 19.
“We must guarantee Ukraine that its energy transmission network will continue to function,” the Italian foreign minister said last week in an interview with the RAI radio and television company.
Italy is currently the rotating chairman of the G-7, Reuters recalls.
