The European Commission has rejected Hungary and Slovakia’s request to mediate a consultative process with Ukraine regarding sanctions imposed by Kyiv on Russian oil producer Lukoil. According to Reuters, the spokesman of the commission said this today. According to him, Brussels has no indications that the sanctions would pose a risk to the security of energy supplies to the EU. Russian oil continues to flow through the Druzhba pipeline through Ukraine to Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic, he added. “It appears that the sanctions that Ukraine has imposed on Lukoil do not affect the current transit through the Druzhba, unless Lukoil is officially the owner of that oil,” the spokesman said.
