UN Secretary General urged to develop an international vaccination plan against COVID-19

by time news

The world needs an international coronavirus vaccination plan so that 70% of the world’s population is vaccinated in the first half of 2022. This was stated by UN Secretary General António Guterres.

According to him, the international vaccination plan will at least double the pace of production and distribution of vaccines. The UN head added that the coronavirus has increased inequality in the world, and the fact that billions of people on the planet are still waiting for their first COVID-19 vaccination, he called a “moral mistake”, writes TASS.

At the end of 2020, Guterres called for the creation of a special working group to combat the pandemic, which would take care of planning the vaccination schedule around the world and the distribution of vaccines. However, this task has not yet been solved.

Earlier, the UN Secretary General said that the coronavirus pandemic has plunged more than 100 million people on Earth into poverty, and more than four billion people on the planet have practically no social support. Guterres noted that the world is in the middle of a significant global economic recovery, with GDP growth ranging from 5% to nearly 6%. However, many developing countries and regions are lagging far behind.
