UN will be discredited if not reformed soon: India | If not reformed, UN will be overtaken by other organizations: Indian envoy Kamboj

New York: India has insisted on immediate reform of the UN Security Council and has warned that the organization will be discredited if it is not done.

United States, Russia, England, Britain, France and China are the only 5 permanent member countries in the UN Security Council. These countries have veto power. Other countries do not have such authority. Due to changes in international politics, various countries are trying to get veto power. In particular, India, Japan, South Africa and Brazil are continuously pushing to declare themselves as permanent members of the UN Security Council. However, due to the attitude of countries that have veto power, this reform is being hindered.

In this case, India’s permanent representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj, speaking to the press at the UN headquarters, said, “The UN Security Council should be reformed immediately. The number of permanent member states in the UN Security Council should be increased. If this does not happen, the UN will be discredited. G20 like International organizations will push the UN forward.

Some of the countries that could be permanent members of the UN Security Council feel that no one else should have the veto power they have. Therefore, they do not want reform to take place. That is why the matter is so problematic,” he noted.
