THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Although the gallonage fee of Indian-made foreign liquor has been set at Rs 10 per litre, the price of liquor will not rise for the time being, Bavridges Corporation said. The law allows a gallonage fee of up to Rs 30 per litre. Gallonage fee is now 0.05 paise per litre. With the increase of Rs 10, Bavridges Corporation will have to pay Rs 90 per case of liquor as tax to the government. A case holds 9 liters of liquor. Bavridges Corporation may demand a rate hike only if there is a financial burden through the tax hike. This should be accepted by the government. Bavridges Corporation officials said that discussions were held earlier to increase the gallonage fee by 10 paise per litre. In the future, if the financial burden worsens, the government will be asked to increase the prices.
∙ Tax structure of foreign liquor made in India
Excise duty will be added to the base price of the liquor (the price at which the company produces it). Excise duty is levied on liquor ranging from Rs 53 to Rs 237 per proof litre. Proof liter (alcohol content of alcohol) is 6.75 in 9 liters of alcohol.
In addition, 14% warehouse margin and 20% shop margin will be charged. The labeling charge is Rs 11 per case. After all this there is sales tax. The sales tax is 246% on liquor with a base price of Rs 400. If above 400 then 251%. At present, liquor with a base price of less than 400 rupees per case is not sold in Kerala.

Adding 20% shop margin (Rs. 356) will be Rs. 2137. With this, 251% sales tax is added and the price comes to Rs 7503. A case contains 9 bottles of liter. 833 per liter. If it is a 750ml bottle then there will be 12 in a case. 625 rupees per bottle. Beverages Corporation gets a liter of Jawan liquor for Rs 51.11. When this tax is added, a liter bottle becomes Rs 640.
