Board member of the Diabetes+ patient association, Wietske Wits, will be giving a lecture on Monday, November 20th addressing the mental impact of diabetes mellitus type 1. As a long-time diabetic herself, Wietske will draw upon her experiences as both a social worker and a patient to discuss the challenges faced by those with the disease. The lecture will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Pieter van Foreestzaal at the Alkmaar location of Northwest.
The lecture is open to diabetes patients, their loved ones, healthcare providers, and anyone interested in learning more about the psychological aspects of diabetes. Interested individuals can register by emailing [email protected].
In addition to the lecture, an exhibition will also be on display in November. The exhibition, titled “What factors can influence the life of a patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus?” features 42 tubes, each representing a different influencing factor in the lives of those with diabetes. This informative and colorful display will be showcased for two weeks at the internal medicine outpatient clinic, followed by two weeks at the pediatrics outpatient clinic at the Alkmaar location.
Diabetes is one of the major chronic diseases in the Netherlands, affecting a large portion of the population.
