The Prime Minister is tightening the screw. Traveling in the Vosges this Friday, Gabriel Attal spoke about the reform of unemployment benefit.

From the premises of the Numalliance company in Saint-Michel-sur-Meurthe, the head of government announced an acceleration in checks on unemployment insurance beneficiaries. These controls should be strengthened in particular in sectors under pressure.

“France Travail, formerly Pôle emploi, carried out 500,000 per year last year: this had already increased significantly. This year we will increase to more than 600,000 and I am setting a goal: to triple the checks each year by the end of the five-year term,” he declared.

For three months, the executive has demonstrated its desire to further tighten unemployment insurance rights, after two controversial reforms to this effect in 2019 and 2023. “This path towards full employment, (…) we do not have it not yet finished”, affirmed Gabriel Attal, wishing once again that work “pays better and always more than inactivity”. “This will require difficult decisions and we are ready to make them,” added the head of government.

Registration of RSA beneficiaries

During his speech, Gabriel Attal also mentioned the registration of Active Solidarity Income (RSA) recipients to register with France Travail.

“By seeking out all RSA beneficiaries and registering them with France Travail, unemployment figures will automatically rise. This is the price of the dignity of French people who are far from employment. This is the condition for being able to act and to be able to offer everyone an opportunity to find sustainable employment,” defended the Prime Minister. “Many preferred to have 6 out of 10 RSA beneficiaries who were not registered with ANPE and Pôle Emploi and who therefore did not fall into the unemployment figures (…)”, he also regretted.

Gabriel Attal also welcomed a new assessment of the fight against “social fraud” which he had strengthened when he was Minister of the Budget: in 2023, “the adjustments for undeclared work reached nearly 1.2 billion ‘euros’, compared to 800 million in 2022.

Accompanied by ministers Catherine Vautrin (Labour) and Roland Lescure (Industry), Gabriel Attal went before his speech to the France Travail agency (formerly Pôle emploi) in Épinal where he spoke with unemployed or unemployed people. beneficiaries of the RSA now conditional on hours of activity or training.
