LOCANA, Italy – A little before Christmas, on December 24, 2025, the Municipality of Locana received welcome news: the Piedmont Region approved an exemption for the Unione Montana Gran Paradiso regarding minimum aggregation requirements, unlocking crucial funding for the region’s valleys.
Funding Boost for Mountain Communities
The decision, ratified by the Piedmontese parliament on December 22, 2025, allows the Mountain Union – encompassing the municipalities of Alpette, Ceresole Reale, Locana, Ribordone, and Sparone – to access vital resources, including 960,000 euros in ATO funds. This comes after a period of bureaucratic hurdles related to a feasibility study.
What does this mean for the region? The exemption allows the Unione Montana Gran Paradiso to maintain and grow the territory of the valleys, ensuring continued support for local infrastructure and development.
Regional law number 10/2024, specifically article 28, reintroduced provisions from regional law number 11/2012, enabling the Piedmont Region to grant exceptions to aggregation requirements based on reasoned requests from municipalities. The Unione Montana Gran Paradiso is now formally included in the Charter of Association Forms, with future approvals serving a largely declarative purpose.
