Universal Orlando Closures: Plan Ahead for February Ride Refurbishments
Table of Contents
A little advance planning can save Universal Orlando Resort visitors from disappointment this February, as several popular attractions will be temporarily unavailable for routine maintenance. Late winter is traditionally a quieter period for the parks, allowing Universal to conduct essential ride tune-ups in preparation for the busier spring season.
According to reports from theme park blog AllEars.net, a total of seven attractions across multiple parks will be affected, ranging from brief pauses to extended closures. Understanding these disruptions is key to maximizing your park experience.
Major Closures to Anticipate
One of the most significant closures continues to be Jurassic Park River Adventure, which initially went offline in early January and is not anticipated to reopen until late fall. This extended downtime is typical for major water attractions requiring comprehensive upkeep.
Harry Potter enthusiasts should also adjust their plans. The Hogwarts Express, a vital link between Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, will be temporarily closed throughout a portion of mid-February. During this period, guests wishing to visit both parks will need to exit through CityWalk and walk, rather than utilizing the convenient train service.
Shorter Refurbishments and New Park Impacts
Several attractions will undergo shorter refurbishments. Revenge of the Mummy is scheduled for a brief overhaul at the beginning of February, while Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast will be down for a single day for fine-tuning. These shorter pauses are generally focused on minor adjustments rather than extensive repairs.
Even Universal’s newest park, Epic Universe, isn’t immune to seasonal maintenance. Fyre Drill is slated for a short closure during the first week of February, a common practice for water-based rides during cooler weather.
For those planning a visit to Universal Volcano Bay, two of the park’s popular round-raft rides will remain closed through mid-February, potentially limiting options on cooler days.
February Still Offers a Manageable Park Experience
Despite these closures, February remains an attractive time to visit Universal Orlando Resort. Crowds are typically more manageable, and wait times are often shorter than during peak seasons. Most of the park’s headliner attractions will remain operational.
However, knowing what’s closed beforehand allows visitors to plan strategically, adapt quickly, and concentrate on the attractions that are open. As one analyst noted, “Flexibility is paramount when visiting theme parks, especially during maintenance periods.”
Ultimately, a little preparation – and perhaps an extra Butterbeer stop – can ensure a magical experience even with a few attractions temporarily offline.
