Construction of Fourth Railway Route from Chennai Beach to Egmore Begins, Impact on Commuters

Chennai Beach, a crucial suburban railway station in Chennai, is undergoing a significant development project with the construction of the fourth railway route from Chennai Beach to Egmore. This initiative aims to improve connectivity and enhance the railway network in the city.

Currently, Chennai Beach is a major transit hub with two lines diverging via Fort and Park stations. One line leads to Tirumalpur through Tambaram, while the other is the flying railway line to Velachery. However, with the new construction, some changes have been implemented, affecting commuters traveling to different destinations.

The most impacted group is the more than 5 thousand government employees and the general public who rely on Chennai Fort railway station for their daily commute. As the construction begins, passengers going to Velachery will no longer be able to board trains at Park Nagar railway station either. This alteration will particularly affect individuals traveling to Chennai Central.

To reach Chennai Central from Velachery, passengers will have to disembark at Park Nagar and then board trains at Sindathiripettai, as opposed to the previous route. Similarly, those arriving at Chennai Central from other destinations will now have to change trains at Park Nagar instead of Velachery. It is essential to note that this arrangement will be in place for the next seven months.

Unsurprisingly, this unexpected route change has sparked demands from passengers for alternative transportation options. Commuters have urged authorities to operate mini-buses from Chennai Central Secretariat and Beach areas to Chindathiripet, thus providing a more convenient mode of transportation.

Furthermore, passengers have also requested an increase in the frequency of mini-buses running between Chennai Central Railway Station and Chindathiripet. These measures would help alleviate the inconvenience caused by the temporary changes in the train routes and ensure smoother travel for the affected commuters.

The construction of the new railway route is expected to ease congestion and enhance connectivity in the Chennai railway network. While the temporary alterations may cause some inconvenience, the long-term benefits are anticipated to outweigh the short-term challenges. The authorities are working diligently to minimize disruptions and ensure the construction is completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Passengers are advised to stay updated with train schedules and alternative transport options during this construction phase. It is hoped that the implementation of this new route will ultimately lead to a more efficient and reliable railway system, further improving the transport infrastructure in Chennai.
