The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has begun investigation in relation to the company OpenAI, which created the sensational chat bot ChatGPT. This was reported by The Washington Post with reference to the FTC documents. Regulators believe the company’s chatbot may have violated consumer protection laws by providing false information to consumers.

The FTC demanded that OpenAI provide details of all complaints received by the company and the regulator itself, which said that the company’s products, that is, ChatGPT, “make false, inaccurate, degrading, and harmful” statements about people. Thus, the FTC is investigating how the company is responsible for the “reputational damage” that consumers have suffered from its product.

The FTC does not comment on reports of the investigation. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tweeted that “it’s very sad to see how the FTC’s work is leaked and doesn’t help build confidence.” He emphasized that his company will fully cooperate with the regulator, noting that “it is very important for us that our technologies are safe and serve the interests of consumers. We are confident that we are complying with the law.”

How the countries of the world are concerned about the regulation of generative AI, read in the material “Kommersant” “Chat bots write the law.”
