The US State Department strongly recommends that Americans avoid traveling to the Russian Federation. In the list of recommendations for travel on the website of the US State Department on Saturday, January 23, Russia was assigned the most stringent 4th red level.

As the reason for such a decision, “the tense situation on the border with Ukraine” was named. In addition, US citizens are warned about the possibility of “malicious actions” by the Russian police in connection with the “arbitrary application of the law.”

The US Foreign Office specifically warns US citizens against traveling to Russia’s border regions with Ukraine, as the situation there is “unpredictable” due to the accumulation of troops and ongoing military exercises.

Earlier in the day, the US State Department ordered the families of Americans working at the US Embassy in Ukraine to leave the country due to the threat of military action from Russia.
