US condemned attempted coup in Sudan

The United States condemns the thwarted attempt to overthrow the government in Sudan, State Department spokesman Ned Price said. He noted that such actions pose a risk to Sudan’s relations with other countries, including the United States.

“Antidemocratic actions such as those that took place on September 21 in Khartoum undermine Sudanese demands for freedom and justice, and threaten international support, including bilateral relations with the United States,” Mr. Price said on the State Department website. He noted that the United States continues to support the transitional government of the Sudan.

The conspirators, led by Major General Abdel Baki Bakraoui, were arrested after attempting to seize government offices. Supporters of ousted President Omar al-Bashir have been officially identified as guilty. Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok called the coup attempt “the latest manifestation of a national crisis.”

About the failed coup – in the material of “Kommersant” “Sudan was not overturned.”
