Venezuela Claims Foiled Bomb Plot Targeting US Embassy in Caracas

Amid heightened tensions and a US military presence in the Caribbean, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced Monday, October 6, 2025, that authorities had uncovered a plot by a “local terrorist group” to attack the United States embassy in Caracas. The alleged scheme, according to Maduro, was intended as a “provocation action” potentially designed to escalate regional conflict.

Maduro revealed the information during his weekly televised address, stating that intelligence sources indicated the possibility of an explosive device being placed at the embassy. He suggested the incident could be a false flag operation intended to justify further intervention.

“It is an embassy that despite all the differences we have had with the governments of the United States is protected (…) by our government,” Maduro stated. He emphasized that security around the embassy had been immediately reinforced and an investigation is ongoing.

Alleged Plot Unveiled During Weekly Address

The Venezuelan leader explained that two separate sources converged on the possibility of the attack. According to Maduro, the planned operation aimed to create a pretext for escalation, particularly in light of the recent US military deployment in the Caribbean. While details regarding the “local terrorist group” remain scarce, Maduro’s announcement raises concerns about potential instability in the region.

Security Measures Increased

Following the reported threat, Venezuelan authorities have significantly increased security measures surrounding the US embassy in Caracas. Maduro confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway to identify those involved and determine the full extent of the alleged plot.

“All security was reinforced around the United States embassy and research continues,” Maduro added.

The timing of this announcement is particularly sensitive, given the existing political and economic challenges facing Venezuela and the ongoing diplomatic friction with the United States. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as the investigation progresses.
