A US delegation will visit Ramallah, the Palestinian capital, on Tuesday to discuss security and political issues with Palestinian authorities.
As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, a Palestinian source reported this to Sky News Arabia.
According to the channel’s interlocutor, the American delegation intends to urge the Palestinian leadership not to again request full member status in the UN. US officials will also discuss the Palestinian Authority‘s willingness to manage border crossings along the Gaza Strip border. In turn, the Palestinian side will call on Washington to put pressure on the Israeli government so that the Jewish state agrees to conclude an agreement with the radical Palestinian movement Hamas to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
On May 1, the spokesperson for the President of the 78th Session of the General Assembly, Monica Graley, announced that the General Assembly would hold a new meeting of the 10th Emergency Special Session (ESS) on Palestine on May 10. The resumption of the emergency situation on Palestine was requested by Saudi Arabia, Mauritania and Uganda, which serve as chairmen respectively of the Arab group of states at the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Earlier, a source in the UN Security Council (SC) told reporters that a group of Arab states intends to propose a draft resolution for voting during a special session with a recommendation to the Security Council to again consider the admission of Palestine as a full member of the world organization.
In April, the United States used its veto power in the UN Security Council and blocked a draft Algerian resolution that recommended admitting Palestine to full membership of the world organization. 12 members of the Security Council, including Russia and China, voted for the document. Switzerland and the UK abstained. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz thanked the United States for its decision.
