The United States Secretary of Defense, Lloyd J. Austin, issued a statement this Saturday (7) declaring “unwavering” support for the Israeli army so that it can defend itself from Hamas attacks, suffered in the early hours of today.
Austin also paid condolences to the families of the more than one hundred Israeli fatal victims. The bombing also left 700 injured.
“I am closely monitoring developments in Israel. Our commitment to Israel’s right to defend itself remains unwavering, and I offer my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this heinous attack on civilians,” the text reads.
“In the coming days, the Department of Defense will work to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself and protect civilians from indiscriminate violence and terrorism.”
The US is one of Israel’s most loyal allies and provides the country with around $3.8 billion a year.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Palestinian militant groups after Hamas launched a surprise, multifront attack inside Israel.
The militants launched more than 5,000 missiles and attacked Israel from multiple directions after infiltrating the border.
Netanyahu is expected to speak with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, after the attack suffered this Saturday (7)
