The latest attacks, which began at 6 p.m. EDT on Saturday, marked the eighth consecutive night of U.S. military action against Iran. Central Command stated the strikes were designed to swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan.
The U.S. also confirmed a third death in recent days, with a service member killed during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance in northern Iraq.
Bahrain’s air defenses intercepted an Iranian attack, and Jordan’s military shot down three Iranian missiles. The U.S. has moved additional assets to the Middle East, including fighter jets, as tensions over the Strait of Hormuz intensify.
Intelligence Warns of Limited Impact on Iran
Despite the escalation, a new intelligence assessment described by current and former U.S. officials suggests the strikes are unlikely to significantly alter Iran’s negotiating stance or strategic position. The assessment indicates Iran’s government is unlikely to feel significant impact or soften its negotiating position as a result of new rounds of U.S. military strikes.

The conflict, which began with a February 28 attack by the U.S. and Israel to disable Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, has killed thousands, primarily in Iran and Lebanon. Energy supplies have been disrupted, and fears of global inflation persist. The U.S. and Iran have struggled to maintain an interim ceasefire agreement, with both sides accusing each other of undermining stability in the region.

Iranian media reported U.S. attacks near Sirik and Shadegan, with an explosion later detected in Abadan.
